SIGHT READING - THIS IS A CHANGE FROM LAST YEAR!!!

A) Judges will be provided with one exercise of 4 measures, allowing 4 Points for each measure sung correctly

B) A starting pitch will be given.  The student will have 20 seconds to study in silence or audiate if they wish.  At the end of 20 seconds, the starting pitch will be given again and the student will begin.  The judge will only judge what is heard after the study period and second pitch.

C) The student may use a neutral syllable, solfeggio, numbers, or letter names, but is NOT permitted to hum.

To clarify as best I can....the students will have 20 seconds to either study the example in silence, OR they are permitted to sing through the example or try intervals as they wish.  The judge will not evaluate what they hear during the 20 seconds.  A second starting pitch will be given at which time the judge will listen and evaluate the performance.

The sight reading example may be in major or minor and it is up to the student to determine if the example is in major or minor.  Only a starting pitch will be given, not tonality.  The sight reading examples will be limited to the Major Keys of B flat, F, C, G and D and their relative minor keys.

  • Arriving CCHS at approximately 5:00 p.m.
